Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 7 April (Evening Shift)

The correct statements from the following are : Choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. A, B, D and E only
  2. A, C and D only
  3. A, B, C and E
  4. B, D and E only

Answer

(1) A, B, D and E only

Solution

As per NCERT, the stability of the +1 oxidation state increases down group 13 because of the inert pair effect.

(A) Tl3+ readily changes to Tl+ (E Tl3+/Tl = +1.26 V), so it is a powerful oxidising agent. Correct.

(B) E Al3+/Al = -1.66 V, so Al3+ is not reduced easily. Correct.

(C) Tl3+ is not stable in solution (it is an oxidising agent). Incorrect.

(D) Due to the inert pair effect, Tl+ is more stable than Tl3+. Correct.

(E) Al3+ and Tl+ are the stable states of Al and Tl. Correct.

A, B, D and E are correct.
