Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 3 April (Evening Shift)

The correct orders among the following are Choose the correct answer from the options given below:

  1. B and D Only
  2. A and B Only
  3. C and D Only
  4. A and C Only

Answer

(1) B and D Only

Solution

NCERT data for group 13 elements:

Atomic radius (pm): B 85, Al 143, Ga 135, In 167, Tl 170. Ga is smaller than Al because of poor shielding by 3d electrons, so the order is B < Ga < Al < In < Tl and A is incorrect.

Electronegativity: B 2.0, Al 1.5, Ga 1.6, In 1.7, Tl 1.8, so the order is Al < Ga < In < Tl < B and B is correct.

Density ( g cm-3): B 2.35, Al 2.70, Ga 5.90, In 7.31, Tl 11.85. Density increases down the group, B < Al < Ga < In < Tl, so C is incorrect.

First ionisation enthalpy ( kJ mol-1): B 801, Al 577, Ga 579, In 558, Tl 589, so the order is In < Al < Ga < Tl < B and D is correct.

B and D only.
