Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 22 January (Evening Shift)

The mass of benzanilide obtained from the benzoylation reaction of 5.8 g of aniline, if yield of product is 82\%, is g (nearest integer). (Given molar mass in g mol-1 H : 1, C : 12, N : 14, O : 16)

Answer

10

Solution

C6H5NH2 + C6H5COCl NaOH C6H5NHCOC6H5 + HCl

1 mol aniline gives 1 mol benzanilide.

Molar mass of aniline (C6H7N) = 93 g mol-1; benzanilide (C13H11NO) = 197 g mol-1

Moles of aniline = 5.893 = 0.0624 mol

Theoretical mass of benzanilide = 0.0624 197 = 12.29 g

Actual mass = 12.29 82100 = 10.07 g 10 g

Answer: 10
