Photosynthesis in Higher Plants

NEET 2017MCQMediumNot asked in last 5 yrs+4−1
Ques. 1NEET 2017

With reference to factors affecting the rate of photosynthesis, which of the following statements is not correct?

  1. Increasing atmospheric CO2 concentration up to 0.05% can enhance CO2 fixation rate.
  2. C3 plants respond to higher temperature with enhanced photosynthesis while C4 plants have much lower temperature optimum.
  3. Tomato is a greenhouse crop which can be grown in CO2-enriched atmosphere for higher yield.
  4. Light saturation for CO2 fixation occurs at 10% of full sunlight.

Answer

(2) C3 plants respond to higher temperature with enhanced photosynthesis while C4 plants have much lower temperature optimum.

Solution

As per NCERT, C4 plants respond to higher temperatures and show a higher rate of photosynthesis, while C3 plants have a much lower temperature optimum.

∴ Statement (2) has the two plant types interchanged ⇒ it is not correct.

(1) Increase in CO2 concentration up to 0.05% increases the rate of CO2 fixation ⇒ correct.

(3) Tomatoes and bell pepper are grown in CO2-enriched greenhouses for higher yields ⇒ correct.

(4) Light saturation occurs at 10% of full sunlight ⇒ correct.

Answer: (2)
