Photosynthesis in Higher Plants

NEET 2016 (Phase 2)MCQEasy📈 Topic in 25% papers+4−1
Ques. 1NEET 2016 (Phase 2)

The process which makes major difference between C3 and C4 plants is

  1. glycolysis
  2. Calvin cycle
  3. photorespiration
  4. respiration.

Answer

(3) photorespiration

Solution

As per NCERT, in C4 plants photorespiration does not occur, because they have a mechanism that increases the concentration of CO2 at the enzyme site (RuBisCO) in bundle sheath cells.

⇒ In C3 plants some RuBP binds with O2, and photorespiration wastes fixed carbon.

∵ Glycolysis, respiration and the Calvin cycle occur in both types of plants,

∴ photorespiration makes the major difference between C3 and C4 plants.
