Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 21 January (Evening Shift)

The correct increasing order of C-H(A), C-O(B), C=O(C) and C N(D) bonds in terms of covalent bond length is :

  1. D < C < B < A
  2. D < C < A < B
  3. A < B < C < D
  4. A < D < C < B

Answer

(4) A < D < C < B

Solution

As per NCERT (average bond lengths):

C-H = 107 pm, C N = 116 pm, C=O = 121 pm, C-O = 143 pm

Bond length decreases as bond order increases (C N < C=O < C-O), and the C–H bond is the shortest because H is the smallest atom.

A < D < C < B

Answer: (4)
