Ques. 1AIPMT 2007

A common test to find the genotype of a hybrid is by:-

  1. Crossing of one F1 progeny with recessive parent
  2. Crossing of one F2 progeny with female parent
  3. Crossing of one F2 progeny with male parent
  4. Studying the sexual behaviour of F1 progenies

Answer

(1) Crossing of one F1 progeny with recessive parent

Solution

As per NCERT, the genotype of an organism showing the dominant phenotype is found by a test cross.

⇒ In a test cross, the F1 progeny (hybrid) is crossed with the parent that is homozygous recessive for the trait.

∵ The recessive parent gives only recessive gametes, the phenotypes of the progeny directly show the gametes (and hence the genotype) of the hybrid: Tt tt 1 Tt : 1 tt.

∴ A hybrid is tested by crossing one F1 progeny with the recessive parent.
