Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 22 January (Evening Shift)

The smallest wavelength of Lyman series is 91 nm. The difference between the largest wavelengths of Paschen and Balmer series is nearly nm.

  1. 1784
  2. 1875
  3. 1217
  4. 1550

Answer

(3) 1217

Solution

1 = R ( 1n12 - 1n22 )

Smallest wavelength of Lyman series (n1 = 1, n2 = ): 1 = R 1R = 91 nm

Largest wavelength of Balmer series (3 2): 1 B = R ( 14 - 19 ) = 5R36

B = 365 91 = 655.2 nm

Largest wavelength of Paschen series (4 3): 1 P = R ( 19 - 116 ) = 7R144

P = 1447 91 = 1872 nm

P - B = 1872 - 655.2

= 1216.8 nm 1217 nm

Answer: (3)
