Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 8 April (Evening Shift)

A concave-convex lens of refractive index 1.5 and the radii of curvature of its surfaces are 30 cm and 20 cm, respectively. The concave surface is upwards and is filled with a liquid of refractive index 1.3. The focal length of the liquid-glass combination will be

  1. 70011 cm
  2. 60011 cm
  3. 80011 cm
  4. 50011 cm

Answer

(2) 60011 cm

Solution

Glass lens (concave surface R = 30 cm, convex surface R = 20 cm, both centres on the same side):

1fg = (1.5 - 1) ( 120 - 130 ) = 0.5 160 = 1120

Liquid filling the concave surface forms a plano-convex lens of radius 30 cm:

1fl = (1.3 - 1) ( 130 - 1 ) = 0.330 = 1100

Combination in contact: 1F = 1120 + 1100 = 5 + 6600 = 11600

F = 60011 cm

Answer: (2)
