Due to increasing air-borne allergens and pollutants, many people in urban areas are suffering from respiratory disorder causing wheezing due to :
- Proliferation of fibrous tissues and damage of the alveolar walls
- Reduction in the secretion of surfactants by pneumocytes
- Benign growth on mucous lining of nasal cavity
- Inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles
Answer
(4) Inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles
Solution
As per NCERT, asthma is a difficulty in breathing causing wheezing due to inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles, and it is triggered by allergens and air pollutants.
Damage of the alveolar walls describes emphysema, proliferation of fibrous tissue describes occupational lung disease (fibrosis), and a benign nasal growth is a polyp.
∴ Wheezing is due to inflammation of bronchi and bronchioles.
