Ques. 1AIPMT 2006

Two vibrating tuning forks produce waves given by y1 = 4 500 t and y2 = 2 506 t. Number of beats produced per minute is

  1. 360
  2. 180
  3. 60
  4. 3

Answer

(2) 180

Solution

Comparing with y = a 2 t:

2 1 = 500 1 = 250 Hz

2 2 = 506 2 = 253 Hz

As per NCERT, beat frequency beat = 2 - 1 = 3 s-1

Beats per minute = 3 60 = 180

Answer: (2)
