Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 6 April (Morning Shift)

Given below are two statements : In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below :

  1. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
  2. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  3. Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  4. Statement I is false but Statement II is true

Answer

(3) Statement I is true but Statement II is false

Solution

Statement I:

[figure]

Both are C10H18O cyclohexanones with the same functional group, but the alkyl groups on the two α-carbons differ (ethyl / ethyl and methyl / n-propyl), so they are metamers and Statement I is true.

Statement II:

[figure]

Keto–enol tautomerism needs at least one α-hydrogen, but both α-carbons (C-2 and C-6) carry two methyl groups and no H, so no enol can form and Statement II is false.

Answer: (3)
