Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 7 April (Evening Shift)

A(g) B(g) + C(g) is a first order reaction. array|l|c|c| Time & t & \ Psystem & Pt & P \ array The reaction was started with reactant A only. Which of the following expressions is correct for rate constant k?

  1. k = 1t P Pt
  2. k = 1t P 2(P - Pt)
  3. k = 1t 2(P - Pt)Pt
  4. k = 1t P (P - Pt)

Answer

(2) k = 1t P 2(P - Pt)

Solution

Let the initial pressure of A be P0.

A(g) B(g) + C(g)

At t: P0 - p, p, p Pt = P0 + p

At ∞: 0, P0, P0 P = 2P0 P0 = P 2

Pressure of A at time t:

PA = P0 - p = 2P0 - Pt = P - Pt

For a first order reaction,

k = 1t P0PA

k = 1t P 2(P - Pt)

Answer: (2)
