Ques. 1JEE Main 2024, 9 April (Morning Shift)

Molarity (M) of an aqueous solution containing x g of anhyd. CuSO4 in 500 mL solution at 32 is 2 10-1 M. Its molality will be 10-3 m. (nearest integer). [Given density of the solution = 1.25 g/mL]

Answer

164

Solution

Moles of CuSO4 = 0.2 0.5 = 0.1 mol

Mass of solute = 0.1 159.5 = 15.95 g (molar mass of CuSO4 = 159.5 g mol-1)

Mass of solution = 500 1.25 = 625 g, so mass of water = 625 - 15.95 = 609.05 g

Molality = 0.10.60905 = 0.164 m = 164 10-3 m

Answer: 164
