Which one of the following amino-acids was not found to be synthesized in Miller's experiment?

  1. Aspartic acid
  2. Alanine
  3. Glycine
  4. Glutamic acid

Answer

(4) Glutamic acid

Solution

As per NCERT, S. L. Miller (1953) passed electric discharge through CH4, H2, NH3 and water vapour at 800 °C and observed formation of amino acids.

The amino acids identified in his experiment were glycine, alanine (α and β) and aspartic acid (with α-aminobutyric acid), so glutamic acid was not among the amino acids reported.
