Chlorenchyma is known to develop in the :

  1. Mycelium of a green mould such as Aspergillus
  2. Pollen tube of Pinus
  3. Cytoplasm of Chlorella
  4. Spore capsule of a moss

Answer

(4) Spore capsule of a moss

Solution

Chlorenchyma is parenchyma whose cells contain chloroplasts; it is a tissue, so it develops only in a multicellular, tissue-forming plant body.

∵ The mycelium of Aspergillus (a fungus) and the pollen tube of Pinus have no chloroplasts, and Chlorella is a unicellular alga (a single cell cannot form a tissue).

As per NCERT, the sporophyte of a moss (foot, seta and capsule) is photosynthetic; the wall of the capsule (apophysis region) has green chlorenchyma cells with stomata.

∴ Chlorenchyma develops in the spore capsule of a moss.
