Ques. 1NEET (UG) 2022 (Phase 2)

The density of the solution is 2.15 g mL-1, then mass of 2.5 mL solution in correct significant figures is :

  1. 53.75 g
  2. 5375 10-3 g
  3. 5.4 g
  4. 5.38 g

Answer

(3) 5.4 g

Solution

Mass = density × volume

= 2.15 g mL-1 2.5 mL

= 5.375 g

∵ In multiplication, the result must be reported with the same number of significant figures as the term with the least number of significant figures.

2.15 has 3 and 2.5 has 2 significant figures ⇒ the answer must have 2 significant figures.

∴ Mass = 5.4 g
