Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 24 January (Morning Shift)

Given below are two statements : In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below

  1. Both Statement I and Statement II are false
  2. Statement I is true but Statement II is false
  3. Both Statement I and Statement II are true
  4. Statement I is false but Statement II is true

Answer

(3) Both Statement I and Statement II are true

Solution

Statement I: K3[Co(CO3)3]: Co3+, 3d6. Three bidentate CO32- ligands CN = 6, octahedral.

CO32- is a weak field ligand no pairing, 4 unpaired electrons, outer orbital sp3d2 hybridisation.

= n(n+2) = 4 6 = 24 = 4.9 BM. Statement I is true.

Statement II:

[Ni(CN)4]2-: Ni2+, 3d8, CN- strong field pairing, dsp2, square planar, n = 0, = 0

[MnBr4]2-: Mn2+, 3d5, Br- weak field sp3, tetrahedral, n = 5, = 35 = 5.9 BM

[CoF6]3-: Co3+, 3d6, F- weak field sp3d2, octahedral, n = 4, = 4.9 BM

All values match. Statement II is true.
