Ques. 1NEET 2017

A disease caused by an autosomal primary non-disjunction is :

  1. Klinefelter's Syndrome
  2. Down's Syndrome
  3. Turner's Syndrome
  4. Sickle Cell Anemia

Answer

(2) Down's Syndrome

Solution

As per NCERT, Down's syndrome is caused by the presence of an additional copy of chromosome number 21 (trisomy of 21) — an autosome.

Klinefelter's syndrome (44 + XXY) and Turner's syndrome (44 + XO), on the other hand, arise from non-disjunction of sex chromosomes, while sickle-cell anaemia is a Mendelian (point mutation) disorder, not a chromosomal one.

∴ Down's syndrome is caused by autosomal non-disjunction.

Ques. 3NEET 2017

Among the following characters, which one was not considered by Mendel in his experiments on pea?

  1. Stem-Tall or dwarf
  2. Pod-Inflated or constricted
  3. Trichomes-Glandular or non-glandular
  4. Seed-Green or yellow
Ques. 4NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

A cell at telophase stage is observed by a student in a plant brought from the field. He tells his teacher that this cell is not like other cells at telophase stage. There is no formation of cell plate and thus the cell is containing more number of chromosomes as compared to other dividing cells. This would result in -

  1. Polyteny
  2. Aneuploidy
  3. Polyploidy
  4. Somaclonal variation
Ques. 5NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

Pick out the correct statements :

  2. A, C and D only
  3. A and D only
  4. B and D only
Ques. 6NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

A tall true breeding garden pea plant is crossed with a dwarf true breeding garden pea plant. When the F1 plants were selfed the resulting genotypes were in the ratio of -

  1. 3 : 1 :: Tall : Dwarf
  2. 1 : 2 : 1 :: Tall heterozygous : Tall homozygous : Dwarf
  3. 1 : 2 : 1 :: Tall homozygous : Tall heterozygous : Dwarf
  4. 3 : 1 :: Dwarf : Tall
Ques. 7NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

Match the terms in Column-I with their description in Column-II and choose the correct option :

  1. (a)-(ii), (b)-(iii), (c)-(iv), (d)-(i)

  4. (a)-(iv), (b)-(iii), (c)-(i), (d)-(ii)
Ques. 8NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

In a testcross involving F1 dihybrid flies, more parental-type offspring were produced than the recombinant-type offspring. This indicates

  1. Both of the characters are controlled by more than one gene
  2. The two genes are linked and present on the same chromosome
  3. The two genes are located on two different chromosomes
  4. Chromosomes failed to separate during meiosis
Ques. 9NEET 2016 (Phase 1)

Which of the following most appropriately describes haemophilia ?

  1. Chromosomal disorder
  2. X-linked recessive gene disorder
  3. Dominant gene disorder
  4. Recessive gene disorder
Ques. 10NEET 2016 (Phase 2)

The mechanism that causes a gene to move from one linkage group to another is called

  1. crossing-over
  2. translocation
  3. duplication
  4. inversion
Ques. 11NEET 2016 (Phase 2)

If a colour-blind man marries a woman who is homozygous for normal colour vision, the probability of their son being colour-blind is

  1. 0.75
  2. 0.5
  3. 0
  4. 1
