Ques. 1NEET (UG) 2022 (Phase 2)

Which of the following are true about the taxonomical aid 'key'? Choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:

  1. A, C, D and E only
  2. A, B and C only
  3. B, C and D only
  4. A, B, C and E only

Answer

(4) A, B, C and E only

Solution

As per NCERT, key is a taxonomical aid used for identification of plants and animals based on the similarities and dissimilarities, so A is true.

Keys are analytical in nature, so B is true; they are based on contrasting characters, generally in a pair called couplet, so C is true; and each statement in the key is called a lead, so E is true.

However, separate taxonomic keys are required for each taxonomic category such as family, genus and species, so D is false.

∴ A, B, C and E are true.
