Ques. 1JEE Main 2026, 21 January (Morning Shift)

Let a1, a2, a3, be a G.P. of increasing positive terms such that a2 a3 a4 = 64 and a1 + a3 + a5 = 8137. Then a3 + a5 + a7 is equal to :

  1. 3256
  2. 3252
  3. 3248
  4. 3244

Answer

(2) 3252

Solution

Let the common ratio be r (r > 1). Then a2 a3 a4 = a33 = 64, so a3 = 4.

a1 + a3 + a5 = 4r2 + 4 + 4r2 = 8137

r2 + 1r2 = 78528

28r4 - 785r2 + 28 = 0 (r2 - 28)(28r2 - 1) = 0

Since the G.P. is increasing, r2 = 28.

a3 + a5 + a7 = 4 + 4r2 + 4r4 = 4 + 112 + 3136 = 3252
