Ques. 1JEE Main 2025, 3 April (Morning Shift)

Let a1, a2, a3, be a G.P. of increasing positive numbers. If a3 a5 = 729 and a2 + a4 = 1114, then 24(a1 + a2 + a3) is equal to

  1. 128
  2. 129
  3. 131
  4. 130

Answer

(2) 129

Solution

In a G.P., a3 a5 = a42, so a42 = 729 and, as the terms are positive, a4 = 27.

Then a2 = 1114 - 27 = 34

and r2 = a4a2 = 273/4 = 36, so r = 6 (increasing G.P.).

Hence a1 = a2r = 18 and a3 = a2 r = 92.

∴ 24(a1 + a2 + a3) = 24 ( 18 + 34 + 92 )

= 24 438 = 129
